@mitu Thank you for the help! It didn't work, but then I got to thinking, just for the heck of it, why not take out the keyboard and dongle. That fixed everything. Thanks to the community for putting up with a noob.

I wasn't sure about that line as it looked to do the same thing, however when I pulled the lines from the main retroarch.cfg file, both lines were there so I put them both in "just in case."
Could be that the core looks at one line and retroarch looks at another, or that some lines found else-ware look for the other string.

Did you setup your retroarch inputs correctly?
Otherwise you can hardcode your buttons in the retroarch script from your emulators.
The Playstation issue could be that the game doesn't work with a analog controller.

I sorted it. One of the joysticks was upside down. it configured correctly but when playing a game it was back to front, strange but fixed now.

Thanks for the help! I was using that particular tutorial because I found the official docs too technical and daunting for that matter, but I'll get over my trepidation and try it again. As for trying to launch from a desktop terminal, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I have my RPi hooked up to my tv, never to my desktop computer. I didn't enable the GL driver, I skipped over everything in the raspi-config because I wanted just a basic set up, but I'll make sure it's off after I reinstall the image. Again thanks for taking time out of your day to read and respond! I can't wait to play!

What games are your favorite to play on retropie?

@dudleydes Thanks I will check it out, my analog sticks were automatically configured too but I wanted to map the left analog to move and the right analog to aim/look. Maybe fiddling with the .cfg file could tell me more!

@caver01 Thanks very much. This is exactly what I was looking for. The DK scenario is one I hadn't contemplated (map all buttons) and a good idea.

@notechskill said in "B" turns to "X" on second controller after restart:

@danielmewhouse just to be clear. On my keyboard hit f4 and go to the command prompt and type in exactly what you have typed out there?

If your problem is on EmulationStation, use "sudo nano /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg" to edit the file. You'll need to find the X and B buttons on the config file and swap the id value.

i could be wrong, but sudo shouldn't be necessary when editing files in one's own home directory

@mitu said in Emulation Station Controls (IPAC2):

@djsim101 Try to map your input in ES first, so you'll not have problems navigating around, then make whatever modifications you want to the retroarch.cfg file to make things work.
Take a look at the docs for the RetroArch controls configuration, perhaps you will want to edit the configuration on a system by system basis.

What he said. I'm on an iPac too, and the mapping done in EmulationStations GUI also maps Player 1 (and the /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg).

Afterwards, just add the needed lines in the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg for Player 2. Make sure to use a real Text Editor like TextWrangler or something, notepad won't do.
